Per recent claims from a informant, Ghislaine Maxwell, now completing a 20-year prison term for sex-trafficking crimes, is reportedly preparing a commutation application for review by the Trump administration.

Special Treatment Alleged at Correctional Facility

House Democrats on the judicial oversight panel announced that a source provided evidence indicating the inmate is preparing the commutation application. They also stated she has been receiving special treatment at the federal prison camp in Texas.

Representative Jamie Raskin, the ranking member on the committee, declared in a official statement that the facility's chief was “helping” the convict with copying, printing, and sending documents to aid her effort for clemency.

The exact content of the clemency request are unknown, Raskin added.

Claimed Perks and Custom Arrangements

The representative claims that, per the insider, the prisoner has been receiving “customized” meals that are “personally delivered” to her living area, and the warden has “personally arranged” exclusive visits for her and her guests.

These meetings reportedly involve a “special cordoned-off area” for visitors and “an assortment of snacks and refreshments” for her guests.

Those visiting Maxwell were also allowed to bring computers, which Raskin described as an “unprecedented action” given the security risk and potential for unmonitored communications.

Reportedly on one occasion, when communications failed for other prisoners, Maxwell was given specific instructions about instructing her contacts to call and how staff would relay the call to her.

Warden as “Personal Secretary”

The whistleblower further reportedly told House Democrats that when the convict wanted to review and edit documents “quickly”, she “essentially used” the warden as her private aide.

The statement states that Maxwell’s correspondents would email documents directly to the warden, who would provide them to Maxwell, for her to examine and change and return them to the official to digitize and send to the original sender.

Additional Privileges Reported

Further perks allegedly granted to her include opportunities to interact with a trainee assistance dog – a benefit typically prohibited – as well as exclusive nighttime use to the prison exercise area.

Maxwell’s attorney has not yet replied to a request for comment regarding the whistleblower’s claims.

In a statement, the presidential office said that it “will not discuss” on possible pardon appeals.

“Per the President's remarks, pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell is not something he has considered,” the representative noted.

Context and Developments

Over the weekend, reports surfaced that Maxwell told friends and family in emails from prison that she was “much happier” at the new prison than her previous prison.

This past summer, Maxwell was transferred from a secure facility in Florida's capital to the minimum-security camp in the state, where most inmates are serving time for financial and non-violent crimes.

This move, which authorities called as “unprecedented”, occurred just shortly following she was questioned about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, who also previously served as Donald Trump's personal lawyer.

This questioning came as the Trump administration was facing mounting pressure to disclose additional files related to the ongoing probe and amid widespread conjecture around Trump's own connections to the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender, who was found deceased in custody in 2019 while facing trial on sex-trafficking charges.

Congressional Response

Through the statement, the congressman also announced that he had sent a letter to Trump, demanding answers about the whistleblower’s allegations, and urged the chief executive to deny Maxwell’s commutation request.

“You should not grant any type of pardon to this convicted and unrepentant criminal,” the representative stated in the document. “Your Administration should not be providing her with personal amenities, with canine interaction, with government agents attending to her requests, or with any preferential handling or institutional privilege at all.”

The congressman asked that the official attend a public congressional hearing to address the disclosures and also presented several inquiries to the President.

He inquired whether he had talked about a potential commutation for the convict with Blanche or others, whether he had directed him or anyone else to arrange Maxwell with the transfer or favorable and preferential treatment in prison, and whether she, her attorneys, family or agents have made any promises to Trump or his legal team.

The representative requested for a reply to the questions by 24 November.

In October, the US supreme court rejected an appeal from Maxwell on her trafficking verdict.
